Program Description

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Character Education curriculum was developed by a teacher committee and includes weekly units that are infused and imbedded into the current educational program. A task force comprised of teachers, administrators, community members, and a school Board Member developed the mission statement and identified thirteen character traits: Respect, Integrity/Honesty, Responsibility, Diligence, Self-discipline, Civic Duty, Compassion, Justice, Cooperation, Manners, Good Judgment, Humility, and Courage.

In the fall of 2000, all teachers attended Character Education staff development and implemented the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Character Education Curriculum in grades, K-12. The curriculum contains a set of character trait word cards with suggested activities and stories relevant to the trait. Implementation involves introducing a new trait each week.
