Staying informed about your school district just became easier.

In February, we launched a new communication tool called E-News, which is a monthly email bulletin that provides headline news about educational programs, events and news occurring in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. E-News will also include stories about federal or state actions impacting PYLUSD, such as changing legislation or the state budget crisis.

The Placentia-Yorba Linda School District will implement a trimester reporting system for elementary students beginning in the 2010-11 school year. The change from a quarter to a trimester system will allow increased instructional time between assessments and reporting periods. This will in turn provide more opportunities for students to demonstrate growth between reporting periods. Trimesters also allow for more time for interventions and skills mastery, as needed. Actual dates for the three reporting periods will be sent home once the school calendar for next year is adopted.

Teachers will continue to inform parents of student achievement through parent-teacher conferences in November, progress reports midway through each trimester, and report cards at the end of the trimester. Additionally, parents may always request information regarding a child’s progress between formal reporting periods.

The trimester schedule will be implemented at all district elementary schools in the fall of 2010. Middle and high school grading schedules will not change. At back to school nights, classroom teachers will provide additional information about the pacing of curriculum as it relates to trimester reporting.
