Seventh Year of Growth for the
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s Academic Performance Index increased to 859—making it the seventh consecutive year of academic growth for the high-performing school district.

Released today, the API measures the annual academic growth of California schools based on test scores and other measures. The goal is for all California schools to reach 800 on a scale ranging from 200 to 1,000.

In the PYLUSD, 28 schools already surpassed the 800 mark with many exceeding 900.

“It’s a unified team effort across the district and the results show,” said Superintendent Dennis Smith. “The Board of Education establishes annual goals to keep making a great school district even better and staff ensures that the goals turn into curricular improvements that make a difference for students.”

Over the past few years, Board Goals resulted in a unified writing program across all schools, an increased number in advanced placement classes at the high schools, time for staff to review data and share ideas for continued improvement, user-friendly data systems that give teachers access to test scores and interactive technology in classrooms that increase student engagement.

Test scores used to calculate the API index were also released by the State. Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified students continue to sustain high levels and in many subject areas scores are all-time records.
